Timing is Everything - June 07, 2004

i spent an hour saturday wandering around the pearl district in the rain.

why, you may ask? you didn't ask? well, i'm telling you anyway!

i was at school at 10 that morning, helping out with fittings for the fashion show. after that, i headed to the sewing labs to do work for studio. i was working pretty steadily, minus the much needed food and coffee breaks, when at about 9 pm, the fire alarm went off and everyone had to go outside. they kept everyone out there for about 45 minutes, then they told us that school was closed and we had 10 minutes to get our stuff and leave.

now, any other day of the year, it would have been no problem. i'd just walk over to the bus or the light rail and be home. but that was the night of the starlight parade. it blocked every possible route i could take out to get to public transportation. the one way out was toward the west, via the 405. unfortunately, i am carless, and my parents were helping someone move.

so, i started wandering around, getting soaked and thinking about how there were all these people around me having so much fun at the parade, and here i am...wandering around alone...and wet. by the time the parade ended, i was in a pretty miserable mood. i just wanted to be home.

funny how things work out though.

i caught the train and sat there in my little funk. a few stops from where i got on, a group of guys got on. one sat by me, the rest stayed down on the lower section. i didn't pay them any attention until people started clearing out, and they all came up and sat in the seats. then i did a double take.

good crap, that's dale!

i just sat there with a grin on my face until he did the double take too. i hadn't seen him for nearly two years. we didn't really have time to catch up or anything, but he did give me a number, should i want to call him. of course, knowing me, i may call him in two weeks. maybe.

on another topic, the family that my parents were helping move came to church on sunday. we finished helping them move later. i really like them. the mother's name is margaret and her two kids are chrissie and nick. i think i'll get along quite well with chrissie. she's a lot like me and she's interested in fashion too. she's 16, but she has a very mature air about her...until she's quibbling with her bro.

well, anyway, i've got to leave soon. i don't relish having to travel all the way to school just to use the internet, but then again, i do appreciate the lack of distraction.

alright, signing off!
